  Energy Program Update-March 2009

District 21’s Energy Management Program has reached a significant milestone. After 3 years of turning off and setting back when students and teachers are not in buildings and classrooms, the District has yielded over $1,000,000 in savings since its inception. This is a tribute to everyone doing their part, no matter how large or small. Shutting a computer down, turning a light off, unplugging a radio or charger – all of these actions multiplied by hundreds across the district have contributed to this accomplishment!

The breakdown below demonstrates how the District has progressed as staff members have become increasingly more diligent about saving the environment and money:

Year 1 - $260,691 savings – 20.98%
Year 2 - $368,222 savings – 26.78%
Year 3 - $418,975 savings – 28.16%

The actions of employees through School District 21 has helped make it an environmentally responsible place to learn--as well as continuing to ensure financial cost savings for the community in every way possible while minimizing any impact of such savings on students and their learning.
