As outlined in the United States Constitution, every ten years, the United States is required to complete a census of all people living in the country--citizens and non-citizens as well as people of all ages. The information gained from the Census is used for a variety of purposes, but some of the most important uses of the Census data include the apportionment of seats based on population in the United States House of Representatives as well as the division of federal funds in areas such as:
- Infrastructure and Public Works
- Education
- Job Training
- Senior Services
- Hospitals and Health Care
- Law Enforcement and Public Safety
This year, all citizens will receive the same Census questionnaire. It is only 10 questions (1 page), and it should be easy to complete in under 10 minutes. It simply requires respondents to mark the piece of paper with a pen and mail it back. While most people will receive an English-only form, Bilingual forms are also available. Finally, all responses are confidential, and individual responses are not shared by the Census Bureau with any other part of the Federal government.
Census forms will be sent out in March, and all District 21 residents are encouraged to complete their form on the day that it is received and send it back the very next day!
Support our School District 21 Community by being sure that you take part in March!
